A Tragedy of our friend Laila Murad from Shangal:

The wounds of war are not easily healed, so when we learn about someone’s tragic story we try to be cautious in how many questions we ask because we don’t want to open the wounds of their past. On the other hand, we cannot allow the stories of the Yazidian families, who were effected by war, to be unheard because as we stand alongside them and help promote peace throughout the world.

There are 1000s of tragic stories of the Yazidi people since the war with ISIS, from having to leave their homeland, dying of starvation to having their young daughters sold into sex slavery, and caught in this ugly ring of human trafficking by ISIS.

This time we would like to share the story of Laila Murad, who was from a village ten minutes away from Shangal and has been displaced for more than two years. She and her five children, four daughters and one son, are living in a small tent. We, at the Family Center, are happy and fortunate to be able to help the Murad family for the past two years by giving them a monthly supply of food and attending to their necessities. When Laila began to talk about her life before ISIS, I could tell from the way she gasped for air and sighed saying, “We were the happiest family in our home village. We all were happily doing daily routines; but suddenly ISIS came, and began forcing my people to convert from the Yazidi religion to Islam and began killing Yazidian people. Once we heard about these killings, we began preparing to move, but unfortunately, ISIS was faster than us. They were merciless, killing the young and the old with no remorse. That day was the greatest tragedy the Yazidi people ever experienced in our history, the day ISIS came and attacked our homeland.” 

 

Laila continued sharing and said, “The day we left our village they were right behind us and shooting at us, that day my husband and son were shot. When I turned around, I saw that they were covered in blood and instantly died. We were also close to being killed, but fortunately PKK soldiers came and rescued us.” Laila paused with tears in her eyes, but she did not want to cry. I thought - maybe she has cried so much that she has no more tears left to shed. Laila resumed talking and said, “We didn’t have any tools, so we used our bare hands to bury my husband and son.” (I began to imagine her burying her husband and son, while ISIS was still behind them. I could not imagine having to go through that situation and in my mind, “I asked why is this happening?”)

As Laila began to speak again, she wanted to continue to talk about it out loud to let go of all the hurts she was carrying in her heart. “As they were burying the bodies, my daughter Sare was running away from ISIS a tree branch went through her eye and she lost her left eye.”

That same day six more members of our family also died: cousins, aunts and uncles. Finally, one of my uncles aided us to come to Sulaimaniyah, but we walked so much we had to be hospitalized for a few days because our feet were swollen and infected. And now, I live with 4 daughters and 1 son, all under the age of 18 living in a small tent with the help and support of the Family Center.”

After this short story, I did not want to ask any more questions, I chose to change the topic. I asked her would you like to go back home, and altogether said, “Yes, we want to go home. But unfortunately, our village is still under ISIS control, but one day we would like to go back and rebuild our homes and lives again.” Laila wants to thank the Family center and I sees the Family center as her family, especially since the head of their household is gone. She said, “My son is only 17, and I have no one else. Nevertheless,

God is merciful because even though my children lost their father, but God gave us the Family Center to my children. You have done everything you could to help us the best way possible. All I can do is thank God for you and ask Him to bless you. I wish I could repay you for all that you have done, but all I have to offer are my prayers to God for you.”

At this point, we do not want to say anything else but we wish one they will live in peace and there to be peace for all humanity.

تراژیدیای لەیلا مورادێكی دیکەی شەنگال

برینەکانی جەنگی تیرۆر وا بە سانایی سارێژ نابێت. بۆیە هەر جارە و کە دەمانەوێت دەرگای ماڵێک بدەین و چیرۆکێکی نوێ ببیستین، زۆر بە هێمنی مامەلە دەکەین و ناتوانین زۆر پرسیاری دژوار ئاراستە بکەین، چونکە نامانەوێ سەرلە نوێ ئەو برینانە بکولێنینەوە. وەلێ لە هەمان کاتدا ناشتوانین ئەم چیرۆکانە بۆ میژوو نەنوسینەوە، تا بە هەموو شیوەیەک پێکەوە نەفرەت لە جەنگ بکەین و پێکەوە دروشمی  (هەڵمەتی ئاشتی) بۆ مرۆڤایەتی بڵێینەوە.

چیرۆکەکانی مەرگە ساتی ئیزیدیەکان، سەدان چیرۆکی نە بیستراوی جەنگی تیرۆر و داعشن، کە لە ئەنجامی ئەم جەنگە هەزاران خێزان دەربەدەربوون و سەدان خێزان کوژراون و یاخود کچ و ژنەکانیان بە دەسکەوتی جەنگ لە لایەن داعشەوە براون و لە بازارەکانی موسڵ و سوریادا مامەڵەی کڕین و فرۆشتیان پێدەکرێ. بۆ ئەمجارە باسی ژیانی لەیلا دەکەین: ئەو ناوی تەواوی لەیلا موراد کوردۆیە، خەڵکی گوندی (گرزەرگ)ە، کە تەنها دە دەقیقە لە شەنگالەوە دوورە. لەیلا بۆ ماوەی زیاتر لە دووساڵە لە گوندەکەیان بەرەو سلێمانی هەڵهاتووە، لە ناوچەی کەنکەوە، لە ژێر خێمەدا لەگەڵ منداڵەکانیدا ژیانێکی دژوار بەسەر دەبات. لەم ماوەیەدا سەنتەرەکەمان بە بەردەوامی خۆراکی مانگانەوە سەرجەم پێداویستیەکانی ژیانیان لە رێگای ئەو هاوکارییانەی کە بەدەستمان دەگات بۆ دابین دەکات. 
لەیلا لە باسکردنی ژیانێکی گوندەکەیان بە دڵێکی تەنگەوە کەوتە گێرانەوەی چیرۆکی خۆی و ووتی: ئێمە خێزانێكی بەختەوەری گوندەکەی خۆمان بووین، پێکەوە ژیانێکی سادەمان بە سەر دەبرد، بەڵام لەناکاو (داعش) لە ژێر ناوی ئاین و پاکتاوی ئاینیدا هاتن و دەستیان بە رەشەکوژی خەڵکانی سەربە ئاینی ئێزیدی (کە ئاینی ئێمەیە) کرد. ئەو رۆژەی کە جەنگەکە دەستی پیکرد هەر زوو ئێمە زوو هەڵاتین، بەڵام ئەوان زوو سەرکەوتن بە سەر هێزی پێشمەرگە و بە زووی گەیشتنە سەرمان. زۆر بێ بەزەییانە بێ ئەوەی منداڵ، پیر، ژن، پیاو، پەکەوتە، لێک جودا بکەنەوە، دەستیان کرد بە کوشتنمان، هەر ئەو رۆژە سەدان کەسی سەربەئاینەکەمان بی تاوان کوژران.

 ئەو کاتەی کە داعش نزیکی گوندەکەمان بوو، ئێمە هەڵاتبووین بەرەو چیای شەنگال، بەڵام دیسانەوە بی رەحمانە لە پشتەوە دەستیان بە (تەقەکردن) بە ناو ماندا دەکرد، بەم جۆرە خەڵکانیکی زۆری دیکە کوژران. لەم ساتەدا مێردەکەم بەناوی (مەردان) و کورەکەم بە ناوی (ئیگان) لە دواوە لە چیای شەنگال پێکران و شەلالی خوێن کران، ئەوان هەر دەست بەجێ گیانیان سپارد، لەو کاتەدا هێزێکی پەکەکە بە هانامانەوە هات و وەڵامیان دانەوە، ئەگینا ئێمەش لە هەمان شوێندا دەکوژراین". لەم کاتەدا لەیلا بێدەنگ بوو، چاوەکانی پڕ فرمێسک بەلام نەیدەویست بگری، یاخود چونکە پێشتر هێندە گریاوە فرمێسک لە چاوەکانیدا نەما بوو، پاشان هەناسەیەکی هەڵکێشاو ووتی" لە بەر ئەوەی هیچ شتێکمان پێنەبوو، هەر بە دەست خۆڵمان کرد بە سەر لاشەکانیاندا و تەرمەکانیانم شاردەوە". ئەم جارەیان بۆ چەند چرکەیەک مێشکم راوەستا ئەو چرکە ساتە سەختەم بینی کە ژنێک هاوسەرەکەی و جگەر گۆشەکەی بە دەستی خۆی لەم مەرگە ساتە دەشاریتەوە. ئەبێت چ ئازارێک بێت!! دواتر لە پیناوی چیدا وایان لێبکرێ؟!!!!! لەیلا سەرجەم منداڵەکانی لە چواردەور بوون و هەموویان گوێیان لەگفتووگۆکەمان دەگرت.
پاشان ئەو وەک ئەوەی ئارەزوووی بێت بی پرسیار کردن هەموو ئازارەکانی خۆی باس بکات بۆم ووتی: "هەر ئەو رۆژە لە کاتی راکردن و تەقە کردن بە ناوماندا ( سارێ) کچم، دارێک بە چاویدا چوو و چاویمان بەست و بەڵام دواتر زانیمان کە بۆ ئەبەد چاوێکی لە دەستداوە. جگە لەوان شەش کەسی تری خێزانەکەمان لە هەمان رۆژدا کوژران".
لەیلا لە دوای ئەم هەموو کارەساتە بە هاوکاری مامی دەگەنە شاری سلیمانی و بەڵام ووتی: بە هۆی ئەوەی زۆر بە پێ رۆشتبووین بنی پێمان ئاوسابوو بۆیە چەند رۆژێک لە ژیر چاودێری پزیشکدا بووین بەم جۆرە ئێمە لە مەرگەساتەکە رزگارمان بوو، ئێستا خۆم پێنج منداڵم کە تەمەنیان لە خوار هەژدە ساڵەوەیە لە ژێر ئەم خیمەیەدا بەهاوکاری ئێوە ژیان بەسەردەبەین". دوا بە دوای ئەم گێرانەوە کورتە، بۆ ئەوەی زیاتر برینەکان نەکولێنینەوە، ئاراستەی پرسیارەکانمان بۆ دوبارە ژیانەوە و ئومێد گۆری و پێمان ووتن ئایا: حەز دەکەن بۆ گوندەکەی خۆتان بگەرینەوە؟ ئەوان بێ وەستان هەموویان پێکەوە گوتیان بەڵی، بەڵام بەداخەوە هیشتا گوندەکەی ئێمە هێستا داعشی تێدایە، راستە هیچ شتێکمان نەماوە لەوێ بەڵام دەتوانین دووبارە دەست بەژیان کەینەوە". لە کۆتای قسەکانیاندا لەیلا گوتی: حەزدەکەم سوپاسی ئێوە بکەم،  گەر ئیوە نەبونایە دوای ئەو هەموو ئازارە نەمان دەتوانی لە سەر پێی خۆمان بوووەستین چونکە من تەنها یەک کوری ١٧ ساڵم لەگەڵە و ئەوانی دیکە سەرجەمیان کچن و منداڵ و کەس نییە کارمان بۆ بکات، بەڵام ئێوە بە درێژای ئەم چەند ساڵە تاکە رێکخراوبوون کە هەموو پشتیوانیەکتیان کردووین لی نەگەراون پێویستمان بە هیچ شتێ ببێت، سوپاس بۆ ئێوە و هاوکارانتان، خودا لە ئێوە رازی بێت".

لە کۆتایدا ئێمە هیچی دیکە ناڵێن جگە لەو دروشمەی کە دەڵێت: هەڵمەتێک بۆ ئاشتی، بۆ تێکشکاندنی زەوی".
