Khala Hama an old dear friend of Family Center

 Family Center is so proud of all the good people who were a part of all of the good achievements from the beginning the center. 

Khala Hama is one of the oldest friends. His full name is (Muhammed Fars Jamshid) but in Kurdish culture (Khala) is a nick name used as a respect for old people and a shortcut (Hama) stands for Muhammed that we use for dear people, that’s the reason we call him Khala Hama. He started working at Family Center in 2005 as a guard, even though he is getting old but he has always tried to do the best in his work in the past ten years. 

Our friend and boss of the Center Jeffry Phillips said “My dear friend Khala Hama has been with the Family Center since the very beginning. He smiles for Kathy han and I never change. His wonderful greeting makes my day special. Even though his health is not very good, He never fails the Family Center”. 

His health is getting worse because of his age but he always says Family Center is not only my work place it’s my second home too, I am so happy to work with the great people for many years because they love me and respect me a lot. 

For someone who love his job and people deserve to call him (lifetime friend). 

We are so grateful for the good luck that God gave us. From the beginning we have many great people working with us and this is all the secret of our successes day by day. Finally, we hope and pray for Khala Hama to gets better soon.

خاڵە حەمە هاورێی تەمەن لە فامیلی سەنتەر

فامیلی سەنتەر لە سەرەتای دروستبوونەیەوە، هەمیشە شانازی بەو کەسانەوە دەکات، کە هۆکار بوون لە سەرخستنی پرۆژەکانیدا، هەر بۆییە هەمیشە بە شانازییەوە ناویان دەهێنێت.

 خاڵە حەمە،  یەکێکە لە درێرین ترین ئەو هاورێیانەی کە هەمیشە جێی شانازییەکانمانە. ئەو ناوی تەواوی (محەمەد فارس)ە، بەڵام بۆ هۆکاری ئەوەی لە کلتوری کوردیدا، ووشەی خاڵ وەک: نیشان دانی رێزگرتن لە کەسانی بەتەمەنە و کورتکرنەوەی ناوی (محەمەد) بۆ (حەمە) وەک هێمایەک بۆ خۆشەویستی کەسەکەیە،  بۆیە هەمیشە بە (خاڵە حەمە) ناودەبرێت.

ئەو لە ساڵی ٢٠٠٥ بووە بە پاسەوانی سەنتەرەکەمان و سەرەرای هەڵکشانی تەمەنی، بەڵام ئەو زۆر دڵسۆزانە بە درێژای زیاتر لە دە ساڵ ئەرکی پاراستنی سەنتەرەکەمانی لە ئەستۆ گرتووە.

هاورێمان مستەر جێفاردۆ سەرۆکی ڕێکخراوەکەمان دەربارەی خاڵە حەمە دەڵێت: " لەسەرەتای کارکردنمان لە بنیات نانی سەنتەرەوە، خاڵە حەمە هاورێمانە، هەر کاتێ بۆ کوردستان دەگەرێینەوە، کە کاتێ (خالە حەمە) بە ڕوویەکی خۆش و دەم بەپێکەنینەوە، لەگەڵ (کاتی خان)دا پێشوازیمان لێدەکات، رۆژەکەمان پڕ لەهیوا دەکات. ئەو سەرەرای باری تەندروستی و تەمەن، ئەو هەمیشە پاڵپشتی سەنتەرەکەمان بووە، زۆر دڵسۆزانە لەو پێناوەدا کاری کردووە".

خاڵە حەمە بە هۆی هەڵکشانی تەمەنەوە، لە ئێستادا زۆر جار باری تەندروستی جێگیر نییە، بەڵام ئەو سوورە لە سەر کارکردنی لەگەڵمان ئەو دەڵێت: " فامیلی سەنتەر شوێنی کارکردنم نییە، بەڵکو ئەوە ماڵەکەمە، من زۆر دڵخۆشم بە درێژای ئەو چەند ساڵە لە فامیلی سەنتەر کاردەکەم، چونکە زۆر هاوکارمن و ریزم دەگرن". کاتێک کەسێك ئەوەندە دڵسۆزانە کارەکەی خۆش بوێ، هەر بۆیە نازناوی (هاورێی تەمەن) ناونیشانێکی گونجاو دەزانین،  بۆ ئەم هاورێ خۆشەویستەمان.

ئێمە دڵخۆشین بەو چانسەی کە خودا پێی بەخشیوین، لەس سەرەتای کارکردنمانەوە هەموو کەسە باشەکان لە نزیکمانن و هاورێمانن هەر ئەمانەیە بونەتە هۆکاری سەرکەوتن و گەشەسەندنی رۆژ لە دوای رۆژی سەنتەرەکەمان. لە کۆتایدا هیواخوازین  و نزادەکەین کە (خاڵە حەمە) تەمەن درێژ بێت و هەمیشە بە تەندروستییەکی باشەوە (هاورێی تەمەن)ی فامیلی سەنتەر و تەواوی ئەو کەسانە بێت کە پشتیوانیمان دەکەن..

Painting Activity for IDPs and Refugees at Family Center

On May 23, 2016 the Family Center had a painting activity for the Syrian and Yezidi refugee children.  The idea for this activity came from our own Twana Hama and an artist friend, Aryan Abu-Bakr.  The children learned to express themselves with paints which brought joy to them and us. 

The purpose of the activity was to take their minds off their current circumstances, if just for a little while and think of something other than the effects of war.  The children took to painting quickly and were able to express their feelings.  Some drew scenes of their villages before ISIS and others painted flowers.  It is evident they miss their homes and their lives.  

The activity made us so glad we had thought of it, when we saw so much happiness while they were busy with the brushes and paint. They were incredibly happy when they saw what they had done on the walls.

The painting activity was so successful, we are planning to have those kind of activity in the future.  We are leaving their paintings on the walls just to have a nice memory of their beautiful faces in our center.

چالاکی وێنەکیشانی منداڵانی ئاوارەی شەنگال و سوریا لە فامیلی سەنتەر

 له‌ ڕێكه‌وتی ٢٣/٥/٢٠١٦ سه‌نته‌ره‌كه‌مان بۆ دڵخۆشكردنی منداڵانی ئاواره‌ی شه‌نگال و سووریا، هه‌ستا به‌ڕێكخستنی چالاكییه‌كی هونەری وێنه‌كێشان، له‌ سه‌ر دیواری سه‌نته‌ره‌كه‌مان. چالاكییه‌كه‌ له‌ بیرۆکەی  (توانا حه‌مه‌) و به‌ هاوكاری هونه‌رمه‌ند (ئاریان ئه‌بوبه‌كر) به‌شێوه‌یه‌كی زۆر سه‌رنجبه‌ر به‌ڕێوه‌چوو.

 ئامانجمان لە چالاکییەکە دورخستنەوەی منداڵان بوو، لەو ژینگە نا هەموارەی، کە ئێستایان تێیدا دەژین. فامیلی سەنتەر وەک هەمیشە بەدوای بەهانەیەکدا دەگەرێت، کە کەشێکی هێمن و دور لەدنیای ئاوارەی و جەنگ، لەسەنتەرەکەماندا بۆ مندالان برەخسێنێت. ئاشکرایە لە دنیای منداڵاندا هونەری شیوەکار و رەنگەکان، زۆر کاریگەرن بۆ دەربرینی ئەو شتانەی کە مندالان لەدنیادا هەستی پێدەکەن یان ئارامی پێدەبەخشیت. ئەو وێنانەی کە لەسەر دیواری سەنتەرەکەمان دەیان کێشا، 

بەشێکیان لە وێنەکانیان دروستکردنەوەی ناوچەکانی خۆیان بوو، کە ئیستا لێی دوورن، هەندێکی دیان وێنەی گوڵ و باخچ و منداڵیان لە دیوارەکان دەنەخشاند. 

لە راستیدا چالاکییەکە نەک بە تەنها مایەیی دڵخۆشی مندالەکان بوو، بەڵکو تەواوی سەنتەرەکەمان بە بینینی خەندە و خۆشی مناڵەکان لە کاتی وێنە کیشاندا دڵخۆش بوون٠

 دوای ته‌واو بوونی چالاكی وێنه‌كێشان، منداڵانی به‌شدار بوو زۆر دڵخۆش و خۆشحاڵ بوون به‌ بینینی كاره‌كانیان له‌ سه‌ر دیواری سه‌نته‌ره‌كه‌مان، دواتر هەموان بەدڵێکی خۆشەوە بۆ ماڵەوە گەرانەوە. 

بەشیوەیەکی گشتی چالاکییەکی سەرکەوتوو بوو، هەر بۆیە لە پلانماندایە ئەم چالاکییە بەردەوامی هەبێت، تا منداڵانی سەرجەم ئەو گروپە خێزانانەی، کە سەنتەرەکەمان بە بەردەوامی هاوکاریان دەکات، لە ئایندەدا ئەوانیش بەشداری تێدا بکەن، تا بە هەمان شیوەیئەم مندالانە  دلخۆش و شادمان بن و وینەکانی خۆیان وەک یادگاری لەسەر دیواری سەنتەرەکەمان بە جێبهیڵن

Family Center hopes to expand activities in Piramagroon

Piramagroon is a small town and it’s about 25 kilometers away from Sulaimanyah. During his reign, Sadam Hussain decided to destroy all the Kurdish villages in this area. This included (Anfal) that he had the villagers buried alive. The remaining people were moved to Piramagroon. At first, it was like a large refugee camp until the people resigned themselves to the situation and began to build themselves houses and start their lives over. This was all for Hussein to change Kurdistan's demography and have more control over the people and make life more difficult for the Peshmarga to obtain supplies and shelter. 

Many of the people have adjusted to their new lives. Since 1991 new semi-autonomous Kurdish government, has built roads and begun providing some necessary services, but still there are a lot to do in this town. 

Dyar Omer, our computer teacher at Family Center, moved to Piramagroon in 2014. He noticed that there were good computers in the public library of the town that no one was using. So he got the idea to use the computers for teaching the kids in the town computer skills during their summer holiday 

After learning of Dyar's project, the Family Center decided to sponsor it for the summer of 2015. We had an open a computer class for three months and had 70 kids participate. We were able to provide the class without charge to the local families. At the end of the course the kids received a participation certificate and they and their families were so happy with that. 

For this year the Family Center is planning more courses in Piramagroon and it is our dream to be able to expand the services we provide there, helping the people there to know they are not alone. 

 فامیلی سەنتەر بە هیوایە چالاکییەکانی لە شارۆچکەی پیرەمەگرون گەشەپێبدات

پیرەمەگرون شارۆچکەیەکی بچووکە و نزیکەی ٢٥ کیلۆمەتر لە شاری سلێمانییەوە دوورە.  ئەم شارۆچکەیە لە سەردەمی (سەدام حسێن)  و لە پرۆسەی ئەنفالکردن و ڕوخاندنی گوندەکاندا دروستکراوە. لەسەرەتادا لە شێوەی کەمپێکی گەورەدا بووە، کە خەڵکی گوندەکانی ئەو ناوچەیەی تێدا کۆکراوەتەوە. ئامانج لەم پرۆسەیە وێرانکردنی دیمۆگرافیای کوردستان، پچڕاندنی شیرازەی کۆمەلایەتی و لێدانی کەرتی کشتوکاڵی کوردستان بووە. تاکە بەهانەی سەدام ئەوە بوو، کە خەڵکی گوندەکان سەرچاوەی هاوکاریکردنی پێشمەرگە و هێزە ڕزگاری خوازەکانن. سەرەنجام گوندەکان کاولکران و گوندنشینەکان بوونە کەسانی نیشتەجێی ئەم شارۆچکەیە و هیز و بازوی کشتوکاڵییان لێسەندرایەوە.

لەو ساتەوە تا ئێستا ئەم شارۆچکانه بوونەتە شارۆچکەی بچوک و ژیان تێدا بەردەوامە. لە دوای ڕاپەڕینی ١٩٩١ ئەم شوێنانەی تاڕادەیەک پرۆژەی ڕێگاو بان و هەندێک خزمەت گوزاری تێدا جێبەجێکراوە. بەڵام کەم کوڕییەکان لەم ناوچانە لە چاو شارەکاندا پێوانە ناکریت.

دوای ئەوەی (دیار عومەر) مامۆستای کۆمپیوتەری سەنتەرەکەمان لە سلێمانییەوە ماڵی گواستەوە بۆ ئەو شارۆچکەیە، دوای ئەوەی بینی ژمارەیەکی زۆر کۆمپیوتەر لەنیو بینای کتیبخانەدا هەیە و هیچ کەس و رێکخراو و کەڵکیان لێوەرناگرێ، بیرۆکەی ئەوەی لا دروست بوو، کە لە وەرزی هاویندا فاملی سەنتەر کڵاسی کۆمپیوتەر بۆ هاوکاری کردنی منداڵانی ئەو ناوچەیە بکاتەوە و منداڵان لە وەرزی هاوین و لە پشووی هاوینەی قوتابخانەدا،  کاتەکانیان بە کاری بەسوود بەسەر بەرن.

دواتر لەلایەن ستافی سەنتەرەوە بیرۆکەکە پەسنەد کرا. دواجار لە هاوینی ٢٠١٥ دا بۆ ماوای سێ مانگ بۆیەکەمجار خولی کۆمپیوتەر بە بێبەرامبەر بۆ زیاتر لە ٧٠ منداڵ ئەو ناوچەیە کرایەوە. دواتر پاش تەواوکردنی خولەکە بەسەرکەوتووی بڕوانامەی سەنتەرەکەمان بە منداڵانی بەشدار بوو بەخشرا، مایەی خۆشحاڵی بەشداربوان و خانەوادەکانیان و سەنتەرەکەمان بوو.

لە ئێستادا سەنتەرەکەمان لە پلانی کاری خولەکانی هاوینەدا دەیەوێت، هەمان بیرۆکەو بە زیادکردنی ژمارەیەکی دی لە کلاسی جۆراو جۆر خزمەتی خەڵکی ئەم ناوچەیە بکات. لە ئێستادا هەوڵەکانمان خستۆتەگەر بۆ هێنانەدی ئەم خەونە، بەهیواین کە هاوشێوەی فامیلی سەنتەر لە شاری سلێمانی، بتوانین لە شارۆچکەی (پیرەمەگرون) ساڵانە تەنها لە وەرزی هاویندا کڵاس فێربوون بۆ منداڵانی ئەم ناوچەیە بکەینەوە، تا ئەوانیش وەک منداڵانی شارەکان بێبەش نەبن لە فێربوون و ببنە تاکێکی سوود بەخش بۆ خزمەتی کۆمەڵگای مرۆڤایەتی بکەن.

A Letter from Gerald Wood to Family Center and English Class

Teaching English at the Family Center has been a rewarding experience. When I teach at the Life Center, each term you get a different group of students.

It seems like you just learn their names and then you have a new group of students to get to know. At the Family Center, I have had a core group of students now for six months. They are not students but friends. The interaction between us is informal and open.

For instance, when my wife went to Dubai for a week.Miran Rauf told the single women in the class, in Kurdish, that my wife was gone and that they should come to my house and cook for me. When one of the women came to me to ask if I wanted her to come cook. Miran laughed loudly as I turned red in the face.
 I explained to Elham that before I got married I had cooked in restaurants, she quickly said “Well then you should cook for us.” Some time after that Elham had my wife and I over for dinner with her family. This was a most enjoyable time and we learned some difference between Iranian Kurds and Iraqi Kurds. We have also gone hiking together.
We have conquered Gozhia Mountain and Hazar Merd Caves.
 In many ways they are my teachers more than I theirs.

وانە وتنەوە لە فامیلی سەنتەر جێگای شانازی و ئەزموون بەخش بوو بۆ من، کە لە لایف سەنتەر وانه دەڵێمەوە ھەر جارەو گرووپێکی  جیاواز لە خوێندکاری جیاواز کە تاوەکو ناوی ھەمووان فێردەبم بە تەواوەتی ئیدی دەبێت گروپێکی تر وەرگرم وبە ھەمان شێوە گرووپ لە دوای گرووپ. 

بەڵام لە فامیلی سەنتەر گرووپێکی پوخت و ھەڵبژاردە لە خوێندکارە ئازیزەکان، کە لە ئێستادا بۆ ماوەی شەش مانگە بەردەوامین، ئەوان تەنھا خوێندکار نەبوون بەڵکو ھاوڕێ بوون. ھەمووان وەک ھاوڕێ و یەک خێزان ھەڵسوکەوتیان  دەکرد. 

بە نموونە کاتێک کە ھاوسەرەکەم بە سەفەری کار بۆماوەی هەفتەیەک بۆ ووڵاتی دوبەی گەشتی کرد، (میران رووف) بە خانمەکانی وتبوو کە من ھاوسەرم لەماڵەوە نییە  ھەربۆیە وەک نەریتێکی جوانی کوردانە، ویستیان بێنە ماڵەکەم و خوارنم بۆ دروست بکەن، کە یەکێک لەو خانمانە ھاتە لام و ووتم: "گەر من بمەوێت ئەو دێتە ماڵەوە و خواردنم بۆ دروست دەکات". (میران) پێم پێکەنی کە چۆن سوور ھەڵگەرابووم. بۆیە بۆ ئیلھامم ڕوونکردەوە کە کاتێک من سەڵت بووم لە چێشتخانەدا کارم کردووە  ھەربۆیە بەبێ وەستان وتتی کەواتە دەبێت تۆ بانگھێشتمان بکەی بۆ خوانێکی خۆت. 

ماوەیەک دواتر ئیلھام من و ھاوسەرمی بانگھێشت کرد بۆ خوانێک لەگەڵ خانەوادەکەی کە خۆشترین کاتمان بەسەر برد و زۆر شتیش فێربووین دەربارەی جیاوازییەکانی نێوان خواردنی کوردی  باشوور و کووردی ڕۆژھەڵات. 

وە ھەروەھا پێکەوە چەندین جار شاخ ڕەویمان کردووە لەوانە شاخی گۆیژە و ئەشکەوتی ھەزار مێرد.
